When Bucky discovered that one of his minions would be visiting Halifax, he requested, and the minion was kind enough to bring back, a bottle of Propeller Brewing Company's Bohemian Style Pilsener ("BSP"). Propeller was founded by John Allen in 1997, and is located at 2015 Gottingen Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

BSP came in a 500 ml brown bottle, with a production date of the 3rd week of June (2012) punched into the label...beer doesn't come much fresher than this! BSP was 4.8% alcohol by volume. It poured a clear golden colour, taking on more of a yellow hue when held up to the light, with a steady stream of visible bubbles. Pouring produced about 1.5" of fluffy, white head that lasted for about 5 minutes before retreating to a 1/4" cap that remained all the way through the beer, leaving considerable lacing down the far side of the glass. Excellent head retention. Its aroma was of bread and caramel malts, with just a hint of lemon citrus. The taste began with a light malt sweetness, giving way to lemon and honey undertones, with a mildly bitter finish and aftertaste. As the beer warms, the honey flavour seems to become more noticeable. BSP was light to medium bodied, with a level of carbonation well suited to the Pilsener style. Overall, I found this to be a refreshing beer, and the best of the half dozen Canadian Pilseners that I've sampled to date. The fact that is was brewed just one week before consumption probably didn't hurt its cause!
